Netvibes Ginger Private Beta , More Than Awesome ..

Hours ago I got an Invitation ( Thanks Frank ) , to try the Netvibes.com Ginger - The Private Beta . as I remember the first time i used netvibes.com , i realized something special about that feed reader , more than he customization of the page or adding useful tools , sometime later netvibes lunches Tabs , means you can add pages and classify it as you read , ( Medicine , Health , web2.0 , Ajax , ..whatever ) , otherwise , Modeling the netvibes and lunching an API ( UWA ) , make it more modular and more interactive with the other web services ( social networking , emails , social services …) , now its easy that we re-call netvibes.com our start page .

Ginger : is the new edition of the Netvibes.com , which focus on adding new features , making it more usable , more social ( connect the people you know ) , and l can say they add the most elegant feature i always wished to see , so here is a list of New Netvibes.com Ginger new features :

1-New Controllable interface :

The New Netvibes.com is now easier to control The Top bar now hold the main controls for the new features ( Add Content , Go to My Private Page ( or ) Go to My Public Page , Activities , Contacts ) , browse widgets and add them in one place instead of going to the classic widgets directory , now you can browse the widget by category , add the widget you want in simple click after you see how it looks like . also now you may search for the widgets you want . all in one place . the new control set is rested in peace in top scrollable frame .

2-Contacts :
Its easy now to find your friends , and add them on netvibes.com , so far you can search for them as well , netvibes list them . Why The Need To Contacts , its easy , Socializing the netvibes was a great step , that Sharing is the most common successful feature , so how about the usability of sharing ? Now when you browse any feed : items , videos , or podcast now you can save the link , and you have 2 options in saving them ( Public and Private ) , Public it’ll be viewed to your contacts .

3- Activities : Your Public activity ,Your Private activity , Your Friends activity :

far as i can get activities mean the links i saved either Public ( for my friends network ) and private only me can view it , also you may notice : Friends Activity , that where you’ll see your friends saved ( public ) links . also you may save your friends added links as a favorite ( make as Favorite ) , if you missed some days , busy at work or can not track your friends saved links for certain time , surly you may wanna to review what they saved so , there is a calender which point to the current day , as you may decide to view the activities in certain day … ( i hope , they add another feature to ” see the activities since the last login ” ) .

4-My Universe , Your Universe , Their Universe :
soon as i registered the netvibes.com years ago , i was shifting my work place , from place to another , also i was moving a lot , sometimes i need to check special pages so i had to login netvibes.com from many public PCs , and from many places , so i made a sort of private feed reader allows me to access to the common feeds i always read , i wished the Netvibes create a Public Page for the feeds i always read , that dose not need a login to access .

Somehow Netvibes.com has another plan for that sort of features , so it created a Universe , that universe is a same as netvibes , but it different cause its Public through a private URL , You can customize this page for the world , and for yourself ( adding your feeds ) , its your own universe which is completely widgetized and customizable , somehow you may publish your news , your social network life . also do not forget , Netvibes users , can subscribe to your Universe as you can subscribe the available universes .
There is many Universes , That you may check . ( Via Netvibes Ginger Portal ) : CBS News ,The Guardian ( The Guardian Universe is Rich. with Tabs ( sections in pages ) . i think , there will be a universe directory sometime later . for that sort of public figures , newspapers ,websites ..etc

so beyond creating a universe i also created fast page of the feeds i always read :

5-Send To : My Picks , My Private Page ( or my Universe ) , a Friend , and To My Blog ?!
In almost every widget , you notice an email icon that will make the share more amusing , by sharing the widget ( blog or a friend ) or even sending it to the place you want ( universe or private page ) , make the interaction between the Private access page and the universal page more easier , in matter of a minute i manage to transfer all the widgets i needed from the private page to the universal page .

There are 2 more features still inactive , but so far i created my universe ( Drive and Channels ) , i can not wait to see them both .

Wikia and Medicine …. New Life for medical and health wiki

Wikia is a Free Wiki , resembling the wikipedia and built on the top of Mediawiki as well , regarding the Medical activities there , we can say it got an attention of Doctors ….may be cause it’s more simpler in browsing , and using..

Health Wiki & Fitness Wiki , got all the attention in interface design and features in , unlike the other wikis which use the default Media Wiki skin and Features..

Medical imaging Wiki , needs some activities ….still inactive but it’s listed in the first page in google in search of ” Medical Wiki ” !!

Flock 0.9 Beta fast Review

Trying Out the latest 0.9 Flock ” The social Web browser ” ….soon as i read the new features included such as New Services , New Interface , as well as New Modifications …

Here are some of my notes about it :

Startup :
Startup speed : Flock 0.9 Startup was a little bit slow than Flock 0.7….
Migration and Data saving , Flock 0.9 Keeps Your accounts at 0.7 for you and import them as well as Importing the installed extensions , 0.9 Imports Google toolbar .
about:myworld :This page is Completely Awesome .. keep Tracking all my subscriptions , feeds , and catching up my accounts there with list at the top of the page about the aviable services ..
main features bar : including all services and features in the flock , such as blog publishing , uploading media , accounts admin , and favorites …

Search in Your world including : google , yahoo ,ask , amazon , epay , wink , and the most Interesting Tecgnorati ..

The Interface :
New Interface , New icons , as well as New Look , i can’t say i didn’t like the Modifications
New Tap: Every time i install Flock or firefox i had to add NewTab..now with 0.9 the New Tab Button is default

Utilities bar :
Unloader , Blog Editor, Show Media bar , Web Clip Board ……which is easy to hide from your Interface , by hidding Flock bar , but that’s also hide your personal bookmarks bar ..!!!

Media Bar : got an Interesting features this time coming in blue and black as before but this time with advanced settings , especially for the photo services , change the positions to top and the bottom of your browser , and can play around advanced control .

Advanced Media Stream Controls : is how to browse your photo media stream , change your display mode and toggle the photo view to small and large photos ..the search in Media stream is amazing you can Filter the Photo stream and search in the current one .

Web Clipboard : replacing the web snippets but with new Modification , Position this time at the sidebar , not at the bottom as 0.7 , adding image by drag and drop or right click send to web clipboard simple , but drag and drop was easier than the old version , may be cause the new sidebar position . in the Sidebar of the Clipboard you can see 2 options for every item including view and blog to blog this item …. the web clipboard can be categorized by adding the items in folders …. Clear All by one click you can clear your web clipboard ..
The web Clipboard sidebar added as well to your blog editor easy to collect what you want to blog about then drag and drop it to your editing space …

Blog Editor Improved Features : MY Favorite new Features ( That made my day )
adding images : not just adding the images but also you can determine the position for it .
inline Spellchecking : This one replaced SpellChecking process with 0.7 , and not working only with the blog editor but also at the browser …..

The New Services :
youtube.com and Truveo for videos .
xanga.com , and magnolia social bookmarking.

Stuff i loved about 0.9 :
1- Restoring Session if the browser crash of closed ..etc and that’s why i left flock 0.7 to firefox
2-the blogging features ..
3-expanding my search through other search engines

stuff i didn’t like : The speed especially in starting up the flock a little slow .

(DMS) Document management System ,the best way to handle the documents online , simple way as web2.0 dose , such as PDF , DOC , PPT , CVS , XLS , …….. ,SWF.So what`s the simple way to handle your articles - news - posts online ( in PDF format ?)

since the Mambo like systems like (Joomla …) (Ps. years ago)have to power to export the article / news to PDF files , yas it`s ..

Web2.0 in Medicine - are we there yet ?? Thoughts about web based Medical ware!!

Are We There Yet ?!! , that`s Q. i planned to answer the last post.. to prefer to later and test some more Web Based Medical softwareand medical web sites … almost all what i test didn`t adopt Web2.0technologies and features , which including simplicty (in Development -Design - and use ) as well as Web 2.0 Technologies as Ajax .. many ofthat software basic .. and focused on the concept it`s DB application(EMR - EHR) ..

lake of communication i notice with some (I meanbetween the for the patient and the doctors ) ….some of EMR softwaresdidn`t get Calenders ….. including more communication details as (Emails - Skype - IMs accounts ) i mean Web Communication features ….

For Developers it`s quiet hazy for editing especially or developingmodules , or re-architecture the system … ( I means for open source systems )

Medical Web sites : many of old respective medical search engines …didn`t adopt the Web2.0 features yet .. but here we have 2 featuredprojects : healthline.com , healia.com -as medical / health care search engines

So.. that`s the Main Q .: are we there yet ? yas and no

, based on new concepts to develop the web sites and treat the Web as
Platform , so now u used some web sites sometimes as desktop
applications , The main new concept is the simplicity , in design , development , information delivery , Web2.0 included many featured projects filed under many sections as (RSS - Podcasts - Weblogs - Wikis - Social bookmarking )

What do we need to get out of the Web1.0 for the medical / health informatics related projects ??

• Web2.0
  power is in the simplicity , in design , and development , that`s make
  the projects really handy and easily to update with new features when
  it`s needed
• User Interactivity , that features provided by ajax , adding more interactivity and life to the web page , but is that the main use for ajax ?? (i`ll try to exclude it later another post)
• Simple Notification - RSS feeds , that feature included in many blogs - CMS - Wikis
• Rich Internet application : as Flash / Multimedia / adobe
• Simple search Friendly : remember the ajax elements not search friendly
• ajax Frameworks “alot of ajax frameworks Opensource free” but which is one to use?
• Modularity :- Modularity system allow the developers which use
  the system to add and customize the system according to their needs ,
  that`s could be developer side .. developing extensions - Plugins & addons sometimes make the system more strong and flexible especially if that Modules easy to develop simply
