Clinical Cases and Images

09.06.2007 · Posted in Imaging - Scanning

After a few weeks of clinical practice, most medical students and residents realize that there is a significant difference between what they read in the textbooks and what they see in the hospital wards and clinics every day. Somehow, the patients are different from their disease description in the books. One experienced physician summarized this experience by saying on occasion: “his CHF did not read the book.” How to bridge this gap between theory and practice?

The answer is to create a free case-based curriculum of clinical medicine.

Clinical Cases and Images is a useful resource that brings together various pearls of medical wisdom and aims to bridge the gap between clinical theory and practice (clinicalcases.org).

This well organized site contains a good collection of case histories, with links to imaging, and clinical examination and procedure websites, making this a feature rich site with a strong focus on clinical learning.

The project has been featured in multiple scientific journals including British Medical Journal (3 times), Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, BMC Medical Education, Medscape (2 times), Student BMJ, Medical Journal of Australia and Clinical Infectious Diseases.

Most of the contributors to the web site are physicians at Cleveland Clinic or Case Western Reserve University (St. Vincent/St. Luke) Internal Medicine Residency Program (the blog web site is maintained by Dr. Dimov alone).
