InVesalius Open source 3D Surgical Planning for Windows and Linux

InVesalius is an open source surgical diagnosis  and planning , its aimed to be usable in various fields : medicine , surgery , veterinary , engineering and archeology .

InVesalius is allowing reconstruction of virtual 3D models for anatomical region of focus . the reconstruction of the 3D image is based on 2D DICOM images with/or CT or MRI resources.

InVesalius can run under Linux , Windows and MacOSX , Its started back to 2001 bt it has been rewritten again and releasing version 3 .

InVesalius is multi-lingual as its originated at Brazil , it supports English, Portuguese, French and Spanish .

Download page is listing Windows port which is tested on Windows XP , Vista and Windows 7 . Linux Version is tested on Ubuntu Linux and Fedora . There is no OSX version released yet , its listed as ” coming soon ” .

System Requirements :

Operating system: Windows XP or above; Ubuntu 9.04 or above (64 bits highly recommended!)

Processor : AMD or Intel processor (64 bits and/or multi-core processors highly recommended for 3D!)

Video card : NVidia or ATI(256 MB or above recommended for 3D!)

For best performance: the team listed a test results in how much GB of the RAM needed :

2 GB of RAM if you plan to open 0 – 500 images (512×512)

3 GB of RAM if you plan to open 500 – 800 images (512×512)

4 GB of RAM if you plan to open 800 – 1000 images (512×512)

5 GB of RAM if you plan to open 1000 – 1500 images (512×512)

8 GB of RAM if you plan to open 1500 – 3000 images (512×512)

Development notice :

Well am a python coder , so its one of the most featured project built for medicine with python yet , for me , it has very well presentation , but mostly it used many libraries as Grassroot DICOM Library along with many other libraries to generate 3D output .
