InVesalius is an open source surgical diagnosis and planning , its aimed to be usable in various fields : medicine , surgery , veterinary , engineering and archeology .
InVesalius is allowing reconstruction of virtual 3D models for anatomical region of focus . the reconstruction of the 3D image is based on 2D DICOM images with/or CT or MRI resources.
InVesalius can run under Linux , Windows and MacOSX , Its started back to 2001 bt it has been rewritten again and releasing version 3 .

2 GB of RAM if you plan to open 0 – 500 images (512×512)
3 GB of RAM if you plan to open 500 – 800 images (512×512)
4 GB of RAM if you plan to open 800 – 1000 images (512×512)
5 GB of RAM if you plan to open 1000 – 1500 images (512×512)
8 GB of RAM if you plan to open 1500 – 3000 images (512×512)
Development notice :
Well am a python coder , so its one of the most featured project built for medicine with python yet , for me , it has very well presentation , but mostly it used many libraries as Grassroot DICOM Library along with many other libraries to generate 3D output .
Dependencies and libraries :
- Python Imaging Library PIL 1.1.6
- Numeric Python NumPy 1.2.1
- wxPython 2.8.9.1 Unicode
- Visualization Toolkit VTK 5.4
- Grassroots DICOM GDCM 2.0.11
