iPhone : Browsing medical knowledge with iPhone #02 : iPhone enabled Medical websites

[W:iPhone] is an Internet enabled phone , means it has an Internet connection , can browse websites , and surf the Internet . Customizing a site to be [W:iPhone] enabled website , ain’t that hard , cause all it needs is the same technologies to build the website ( may be less ) .

Some medical websites now declare they have customized iPhone interfaces for easy iPhoneiPod Touch browsing . So doctors can find their way around now to the medical websites , especially the knowledge base type .

Other browsers :
User can access those sites easily through [W:Safari] browser ( apple web browser for [W:Mac OSX] or Windows ) or even [W:Firefox] .

Features :

Most of those iPhone enabled sites , have a simple look  , with browsing in Safari browser or Firefox , and that because it made originally for iPhone , and making use of its browsing features , and small screen .

WebMD is comprehensive resource for doctors to look for Treatment , Disease , Drug and First aid ,  WebMD mobile is a site specific browser application that made by WebMD , Its free for download .

2-Taber’s Medical Dictionary iPhone ( link) :
Taber is a [W:medical dictionary] and [W:encyclopedia] contains over 60,000 terms, 1,000 images and 30,000 audio pronunciations , Taber has ported applications for mobile devices including iPhone . Taber`s iPhone is not a free application and it comes with a subscription for one year about $50 .

3-Pubmed search and Pubmed Search Plus ( link ) :
unboundmedicine.com has an iPhone port for searching [W:Medline] and [W:Pubmed], Unbound Medline contains citations to ~17 million medical journal articles found in MEDLINE and PubMed . iPhone port for [W:UnboundMedicine] through this link .

They have their iPhone , iPod Touch application , which demands iSilo the docuement reader application for iPhone and OSX , iSilo has ports to other mobiles systems as Android , Symbian and Windows mobile . ( but i didn’t find information if it’ll run Therapeutic Guideline on other systems than iPhone ) . tg

5-Medscape iPhone ( link ) :
[W:Medscape] iPhone application is a comprehensive [W:drugs database] ( 6.000 brands and generic names ) , with easy to search for drugs , and get all the information about specific drugs as drug interactions , it saves time with its usability features . Medcape iPhone application contains also a medical news reader with a directory for CME . Its an offline content based application , you can search , locate and read the contents mainly without Internet connection .

Medscape iPhone is also providing a very handy tool to access physicians lists ( about 400.000 physicians ) , pharmacies ( 57.000 pharmacies ) , and about 6.000 hospitals . search by location , name or specialty .

6-California Healthline iPhone application ( link ) :
Its a [W:Californiahealthline.org] to interact with the site content , as reading latest stories , listen to audio reports, personalize the news feed, and email any article to a contact .The application is free and require no register . California Healthline iPhone application works very well when there is no internet connection , it saves the latest updates when the user is connected and the user can browse them later .

7-UMMS Medical Encyclopedia iPhone  ( UMMS ency , iPhone app )  : ( University of Maryland Medical System )
[W:University of Maryland Medical System] , has over 50000 pages of medical information , doctors can access the web page of the encyclopedia through their web browser . their web portal does not have much different than the iPhone application even in toggling the language ( English – Spanish ) .

Medical information is organized according to symptoms, injury, disease, and surgery, nutrition , poison ,tests , and special topics .

8-Doctor’s Digest ( website ):
[W:Doctor's Digest] released their iPhone and iPod Touch application , which offers the user free 2009 subscription , you can find it in iTunes app store .

9-caBIO :The Cancer Bioinformatics Infrastructure Objects :

is an ongoing effort to model the rapidly-changing genomics and proteomics domain and to integrate data from numerous sources providing a holistic view of the human and mouse genomes.
