iPhone or Android !!

10.25.2009 · Posted in Articles, Smart Phones, iPhone

Well Android is coming there is no doubt about that ,but the question is : how much time it’ll take for android to can compete with iPhone ?!

First of all Why iPhone is the best phone of doctor so far ?!
My points of view is different as i am a developer , a doctor , a linux and open source user as well as a current Windows mobile User on my HTC phone !

My points of view as i explained before is considering usability as the top issue to compare !! Usability from the end-user view as well as usability from developers perspective !
android
End user :

iPhone so far is proven day after day to be more usable for doctors than the other phones regarding the availabilities of applications which are collected all in one place , with cheap price for the most of applications . There are also a huge variations of apps making easy for users to choose between applications with numerous numbers of applications , as one of my friends said ” Applications for everything ” .

iPhone is also powered with enough space starting from 8GB to extend the device for many uses as eduction , i wrote an article in here before about iPhone USMLE applications as an example .

Developers perspective :
As a developer i prefer to develop my application for iPhone over Pocket PC applications and the newborn Android , not just because the ease of developing over it , but also because iPhone is already popular phone .

No need to forget apple is providing the end-user by a great store to show , download , buy the iPhone applications all in one place ,which will guarantee the developer an easy and effective way to reach the end-user .

Its not about the Hardware feature !

If the people were driven before by the feature of the phone before , well thats is not happening anymore , people now will choose over the phone which will has applications and can be extended  more than the other phones , leading them to the logical choice right now which is iPhone .

  1. Applications in the app store are becoming more and more hits-driven. The frustration that developers run into when submiting to the appstore is also a big problem. The android platform will open up to developers and in the end I feel will be the dominant platform once your traditional pc makers get into the market. Handset makers will be squeezed out, as more and more physician-friendly smartphones get developed on the open android platform.

I installed Android , and i believe it'll hit the iPhone in matter of year or two regarding the developers interest , and open source support , however i believe its more hacky , and customizable than iPhone regarding developers

  7. Clinically Relevant Technologies has a clinical iphone app for health card providers that has done extremely well in the App Store. They just released a version for the Android last week. It has had nowhere the exposure and popularity that the same application has had on the iPhone. The OS is less secure from a proprietary perspective as a developer, and there are many challenges to developing for different OS versions and phone types. I hope eventually it will catch on… its in the best interest for everyone!

    CORE – Clinical ORthopaedic Exam
Nearly 250 clinical tests for the physical exam of musculskeletal diagnosis. Includes written instructions, video demonstrations, and diagnostic properties for all tests (validity/reliability) with PUBMed referenced links
