Visualizing the Flu : Visualizing Swine Flu – H1N1 !

Visualization is a not that tricky , however in such viral news as H1N1 its badly needed , either to track the new cases or follow up the numbers of the cases around the world .

There are many visualization tools , some of them don’t require programming skills to create , edit and publish , but some are designed for the use of the professionals .

In this article , i collected the most useful , usable and accurate Visualization resources for the H1N1 , including Maps , Charts .

Swine Flu Maps / H1N1 Maps :

1- FluTracker :
Created by Dr.Henry Niman , to provide a geo tracker for Flu around the world , it uses Google Maps , and Rhiza which combines Google Maps with Charts , its not a free product thu .

2-H1N1 Swine Flu Heat Map :

It uses Bing Maps , as well as UMapper.com service to create the map , the map is created April – 2009 , but its updated by the author . ( does not support the automated updates ) .- source .

3-2009 Swine Flu H1N1 Outbreak and Migration Map – link :
Map of 2009 Swine Flu H1N1 outbreaks and migration paths reported from news and government agencies. The map lists reported dates and paths of infected persons traveling. – Using Bing Maps.

4-Swine-flu-map-animation.com :
This project is developed is no longer updated .

5-WHO Visualization H1N1 Time oriented Map :
This Map shows up activities of H1N1 on the map in specific dates .

6-NYTimes – Tracking Swine Flu Cases Worldwide :
is an old ( created april 2009 ) interactive map for tracking Swine Flu cases in USA and the world .

7- Swine Flu Tracker Dashboard :
Created by Ryan Goodman using google maps . and Xcelsius .

8-Healthmap.org :
Healthmap is the honorable guest in here , because its automated features to place the news items to the map , soon as it read it from the news feeds . its now multi-libual and more customized than before .

9-H1N1 Swine Flu :

10-2009 H1N1 Flu Outbreak Map – Link , by Wikiprotest :

is an Open map , anyone can contribute and add new event ( cases ) in any location . black markers to indicate confirmed deaths and red markers to indicate confirmed infections. Question markers on top of the markers indicate that it is a ‘suspected’ death or infection.

11 -SwineFlu Twitter notifications on the map :

Instantly update-able map with the most recept twitter notifications about H1N1 / Swine Flu . There is left sidebar to specify the location and seems all exist except Africa and Asia ( except India ) .

12-Swine Flu Cases and Measures by Country, 4.27.2009 :
using Geocommons.com . which is used as well to create another map for tracking the new reported cases . both maps are old April 2009 .

13-Swine Flu – H1N1 Tracking :

Ushahidi Swine Flu map Is the best so far for Swine Flu tracking map , its complete google maps mashups application , provides usability features to filter the map by confirmed cases , confirmed death , and suspected cases / suspected death . Its Time oriented as well , the user can select the date to show the visualized mapped data corresponding to this date . Anyone can submit a report , it’ll be VERIFIED later by the admins . Subscribe feature is allowing the people to subscribe to swine flu updates in their cities and get notified by mobile , or email … RSS feed is also aviable .

14-H1N1 – Swine Flu Map – Click 2 Map :
Its not that updatable , but it has very nice feature to filter the content regarding the cases ( Suspect , Confirmed , Deaths , or Negatives )

15-Video to map :
Putting the videos ( H1N1 ) videos on the map regarding their location is quite good idea if the people move to video blogging , other wise its good idea in order to keep alerted .

16-Google earth Swine Flu timemap :

17-BBC Swine flu: Country by country link – :

is an Animated map provides detailed information about spreading the swine flu , country by country , ir uses WHO, ECDC, CPC, HPA (UK), governments as a data source , unfortunately the WHO stopped producing detailed worldwide figures after 6 July 2009 .

18-Swine Flu heatmap and progress chart :
Well i give this 3rd place of those maps , its quite rich page for Swine flu datas , including map ,activities , reports , news , and by country cases table .

19- Washigtonpost Reported cases of Swine Flu – link :
It display the reported cases in numbers on google maps , however it shows the Confirmed cases number and Deaths numbers as well . Last updated JULY 16, 2009 at 11:30 A.m.

I didn’t see the markers so far i hope its a temporary problem .
